Faculty Development Program on Environmental Science and Law: Sustainable Development and Climate Policy (4th December 2023 to 11th December 2023, Hybrid Mode)

With the heavenly blessings of Reverend Sant Baba Malkit Singh Ji and Reverend Baba Dlawar Singh Ji ‘BrahmJi’, and with the benign endorsement of Baba Janak Singh Ji and Honorable Chancellor Sant Manmohan Singh Ji, and under the valuable guidance of Honorable Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Dharmjit Singh Parmar, the University Institute of Law (UIL), Sant Baba Bhag Singh University (SBBSU), is pleased to announce an FDP on Environmental Science and Law: Sustainable Development and Climate Policy.

FDP Objectives

• Deepen understanding of environmental challenges and sustainable development goals through a legal lens.
• Equip faculty with knowledge of environmental law, both at national and international levels, to support sustainability initiatives.
• Highlight the role of legal policy in driving climate action and fostering environmental responsibility.
• Encourage interdisciplinary approaches, integrating science, law, and policy for holistic teaching and research perspectives.
• Enable faculty to guide students effectively in exploring career paths in environmental policy, advocacy, and sustainable business.

Program Structure and Activities

Inaugural Ceremony

The program commenced with an inaugural ceremony, graced by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Dharamjit Singh Parmar, Registrar Prof. (Dr.) Aneet Kumar, Dean Academics Prof. (Dr.) Vijay Dhir, and Deans of various institutes at SBBSU. The Vice Chancellor formally inaugurated the FDP with a keynote address emphasizing interdisciplinary education in addressing environmental challenges.

Sessions Overview

• Day 1: Introduction to Environmental Science and Law
  Topics: Sustainability foundations, ecosystem conservation, and interdisciplinary approaches.
• Day 2: Legal Frameworks for Environmental Protection
  Topics: Environmental Protection Act, 1986; international agreements like the Paris Agreement and Kyoto Protocol.
• Day 3: Climate Policy and Sustainable Development
  Topics: Intersection of law, climate policy, and corporate social responsibility; SDGs and eco-friendly practices.
• Day 4: Interactive Sessions and Case Studies
  Activities: Real-world applications of environmental law, group problem-solving exercises.
• Day 5: Collaborative Workshop and Group Presentations
  Activities: Development of innovative teaching approaches, group presentations on methodologies.

Valedictory Ceremony

The FDP concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Pooja Bali, Dean, University Institute of Law, followed by a vote of thanks expressing gratitude to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Dean Academics, and faculty members for their support, and to participants for their engagement.
